Columbia, S.C. – The South Carolina Republican Party today issued a statement congratulating State Senator Shane Massey, R-Edgefield, on being named to the Washington Post’s list of 40 rising political stars who are under 40 years old:

“South Carolina is truly blessed to have principled, committed leaders like Senator Shane Massey. On behalf of all South Carolina Republicans, I congratulate him,” said SCGOP Chairman Matt Moore.

A South Carolina state senator, he has been in office since winning a 2007 special election in a seat formerly held by Democrats. He’s now on the Senate GOP’s whip team. He briefly ran for Congress in 2010 but quickly pulled out, citing a desire to keep his family in South Carolina. What’s clear: He doesn’t lack ambition.
